The Quail and the Falcon

বটের আর বাজপাখি

🐤 Quail🦅 Falcon🪷 Jataka

Quail knows every clod and furrow of his ploughed field. Then one day he wanders out onto the bare open ground — where there is nowhere at all to hide. And high above, Falcon is circling. A two-thousand-year-old Jataka tale, told in few words and many pictures. Only on Phulpakhi.

Scroll down — let the story begin…

Scene 1 / 7

Quail lives in a ploughed field. Every clod, every furrow, every hollow  he knows them all. Tik, tik, he pecks for seeds.

Scene 2 / 7

One day he wandered far out. Flat, bare ground, empty as a plate. No clods. No cover.

Scene 3 / 7

A shadow slid across the ground  do you see it? Falcon! Whoosh! She folded her wings and came down like a storm.

Scene 4 / 7

Quail lay very still. His heart went pit-a-pat. Then he said, "On my own ground you could never have caught me." Falcon laughed. "Is that so? Go on, then."

Scene 5 / 7

Quail went home to his field. He hopped up onto a big clod and called out  tee-twee! "Here I am! Come and get me!"

Scene 6 / 7

Whoosh! Falcon dropped like an arrow. Quail slipped behind the clod  quick! Thud! Falcon hit the clod instead.

Scene 7 / 7

Falcon limped away. She never came back to that field again. Crickets started up. Quail settled down on the ground he knew.

How well did you listen?
