Winter was coming. Mother Pig said, "Time to build your own houses, dears. And remember — build them strong!" The three brothers set off down the lane, bundles on their shoulders.
Big Brother built a straw house — rustle-rustle, done! Middle Brother a stick house — tap-tap, finished! "Little Brother, come play!" "House first, play later." Which house would YOU build?
Under the burning sun the little pig pressed brick after brick. One… two… a hundred! His brothers laughed. "Silly! Who works that hard?" "You'll see, brothers — when the storm comes." In seven days the brick house stood.
At dusk a wolf came out of the forest. He pawed at the straw door. "Little pig, open up!" "No, no, no!" "Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house down!" WHOOSH! The straw flew away.
The two dived into the stick house. The wolf came right behind — "Then I'll huff, and I'll puff!" C-R-ACK! Now run — run for the brick house!
Inside the brick house the lantern glowed soft. The three brothers sat pressed together, hearts going thump-thump. Outside: a huff, and another. The walls didn't move. "I made every one of these bricks with my own hands."
At dawn the wolf crept onto the roof. "I'll come down the chimney!" Below, a pot of water was already boiling. YEOWCH — hot water on his tail! Smoke trailing behind him, he tore off into the forest. He never came back.
All winter long the three brothers built two more brick houses together. Now the big two sing as they knead the clay: "One brick… two bricks… a strong house!"
