Stories from Greece

Blue seas, olive trees and white stone — Greece is where Aesop told his famous fables two and a half thousand years ago.

20 stories

Far, far away to the west, beside a sparkling blue sea, lies Greece — white stone houses, rows of olive trees on the hillsides, and little islands scattered across the water.

About two and a half thousand years ago, a storyteller named Aesop lived here. In markets and by roadsides he told short tales of hares, tortoises, foxes and crows — each with a lesson at the end. Those very tales have travelled all the way to you!

Fun facts

Greece has more than two thousand islands — and most of them have nobody living there!

An olive tree can live for over a thousand years — some trees from Aesop's day may still be giving fruit!

The ancient Greeks built huge stone halls with tall, tall columns — and they're still standing after two and a half thousand years!

The famous race between the hare and the tortoise was first told right here!
